QuickLogic Launches New Strategic Initiative Enabling Digital Sixth Sense Through Ultra-Low Power Sensor Hubs

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Oct 16, 2013 -- QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK)

  • New solutions enable always-on context awareness for mobile devices -- critical element required to make the Digital Sixth Sense a reality

  • Strategic expansion of QuickLogic's portfolio of solutions for the high growth, high volume mobile market that enhance the user experience

QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the innovator of ultra-low power programmable Customer Specific Standard Products ( CSSPs), today announced it is launching a strategic initiative to enable the "Digital Sixth Sense" in mobile devices. QuickLogic's new ultra-low power sensor hub technology makes always-on context awareness a reality for mobile devices and represents a fundamental shift in how ultra-low power programmable logic can be deployed in mobile devices to deliver the promise of contextual awareness.

Smartphones are driving significant growth for 9-axis MEMS-based inertial sensors such as accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes. According to a recent study published by Semico Research, smartphones are expected to account for 57% of all 9-axis sensors consumed within the next five years. Sensor hubs, which are increasingly required to support these sophisticated sensor solutions, are expected to reach 2.7B units by 2017, representing a more than 26% compound annual growth rate from 2013.

"Our overarching product strategy is to identify areas where our programmable logic can improve the mobile device consumer experience," said Andy Pease, QuickLogic's president and CEO. "Our Customer Specific Standard Products engagement model has resulted in a deep understanding of the battery life challenges the mobile market faces when enabling entirely new use cases such as always-on context awareness. We are leveraging our knowledge with our latest strategic initiative in the area of ultra-low power sensor hubs. Our unique solution is based on our patented, real-time reconfigurable programmable logic, the right software tools, and ecosystem partners who are domain experts in the algorithms needed to make always-on context awareness a smartphone feature that meets OEM battery life targets."

QuickLogic will provide additional information on its new ArcticLink® 3 S1 Ultra-Low Power Sensor Hub and its new PolarPro™ 3 Programmable Logic platform families during its quarterly earnings call scheduled for October 30, 2013 at 2:30 PM PST.
