IDT Introduces Low-Power LVDS Clock Fanout Buffers Offering 60% Power Savings

IDT’s Latest Differential Fanout Buffer Family Operates at 1.8V with Comparable AC Performance to 3.3V Versions, for High-performance Communication, Computing, and Networking Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 30, 2014 — Integrated Device Technology, Inc. ( IDT®) (NASDAQ: IDTI), the Analog and Digital Company™ delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced the introduction of a 1.8 V LVDS clock fanout buffer family offering high-performance AC characteristics similar to that of 3.3 V devices. The new low-voltage fanout buffers enable customers to save up to 60% power and heat dissipation without sacrificing accuracy, bit error rates, or functionality.

The IDT 8P34S is a family of clock fanout buffers that accept a clock or data signal input, and duplicate (fan out) that signal for the purpose of providing a high-quality clock or data signal to multiple devices within the system. The devices’ low 1.8 V supply voltage enables designers to reduce power consumption without performance penalties – allowing for higher board densities and lowering energy and cooling costs. The 8P34S family supports up to 12 outputs and is pin-to-pin compatible with higher-voltage versions, making them ideal for use in complex, low-noise, high-speed clock designs found in wireless and wireline communications, advanced computing, and networking applications.

“Power consumption and the resulting heat dissipation is a serious concern in any high-performance system,” said Christian Kermarrec, vice president and general manager of the Timing and Synchronization Division at IDT. “In the past, higher performance implied higher power, and attempts to lower power consumption typically required an undesired trade-off in performance. As the industry leader in timing, it’s our goal to enable customers to meet their power requirements without sacrificing performance. IDT’s latest fanout buffer family is a great example of this, and will be a popular clock distribution product for our 4G wireless infrastructure and high-speed networking customers.”

The IDT 8P34S family consists of devices ranging from 2 to 12 differential outputs, featuring low additive RMS phase noise down to 39 femtoseconds and support for frequencies up to 1.2 GHz. The buffer is fully compatible with standard LVDS devices, making it easy to deploy with minimal board footprint. The new fanout buffer family complements IDT’s leading portfolio of clock distribution, clock generation, and serial switching products. These include IDT’s RF-PLL, Universal Frequency Translator™ , FemtoClock®, VersaClock®, and differential MEMS oscillator families, as well as Serial RapidIO® switches and bridges.
