Avnet Releases ONIX-VU440 Kit Based on Largest Xilinx Virtex UltraScale FPGA

Board facilitates rapid prototyping and ASIC emulation

PHOENIX — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 9, 2015Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), a leading global technology distributor, today released the ONIX-VU440, a flexible platform based on the Xilinx Virtex® UltraScaleTM XCVU440 FPGA – the largest FPGA currently available on the market. The board is designed for rapid prototyping and ASIC emulation of high-performance, high-complexity systems.

The ONIX ASIC prototyping platform is a collaborative effort between Dgtronix Ltd., Xilinx, Inc. and Avnet. The scalable design of the ONIX–VU440 supports three modes of operation, including: “desktop” standalone mode, PCIe plug-in card mode and mezzanine module mode, where the ONIX-VU440 is plugged onto a host board, interconnecting two ONIX boards in a standard 3U rack form-factor. The 3U racks are designed to be cascaded in order to increase the logic capacity for emulation. In addition, the ONIX package includes management software that enables easy access to board features like programmable PLLs/oscillators, flash programming, low-level SoC debugging, and memory dumps and uploads.

“The capabilities of the ONIX-VU440 platform are exceptional,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technical marketing at Avnet Electronics Marketing. “The flexibility offered by the four FMC expansion slots, 26 GTH serial transceivers running at 16Gbps, x8 PCIe Gen3 interface and 72-bit DDR4 SODIMM socket, make this platform ideal for designers needing a high-performance, scalable prototyping solution. Dgtronix has architected this system for maximum flexibility, which is critical for today’s ASIC emulation community.”

“The ONIX platform design is based on years of extensive experience as both a board manufacturer and engineering design services provider. We created this platform with our customers’ emulation platform requirements in mind, as well as the need for low-cost and ‘off-the-shelf’ FMC and PMOD extension products,” said David Tash, CEO of Dgtronix and ONIX. “In addition, the ONIX platform is open to employ Avnet’s Mini-ITX – ARM based Xilinx Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoC board. Dgtronix holds unique signal and power integrity expertise, which is implemented on the ONIX platform to support very high speed interfaces up to 33Gbps.”

The ONIX–VU440 Kit Includes:

  • ONIX VU440 FPGA Board
  • USB A-mini-B Cables (2)
  • 12V Power Supply (US/UK/Euro AC cords)
  • Xilinx Vivado®: Design Edition (device locked to XCVU0440)
  • ONIX Dashboard Software

The ONIX–VU440 is available for order today from Avnet Electronics Marketing. Further information on the ONIX–VU440 can be found at http://bit.ly/1OaR9VL.
