Robots Come to Life in Washington, DC at FIRST Robotics Competition, March 4-6

High school teams will converge on the Nation's Capitol March 5-6 to compete in the FIRST® Robotics Competition. The two-day competition is free and open to the public, and media are welcome. To learn more about the regional contests, click here.

WHAT:
The FIRST Robotics Competition Washington DC Regional. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual event that challenges high school students, working with professional mentors, to design and build a robot as a solution to a technical engineering problem. The challenge changes each year. This year's challenge is a high-tech game called "BREAKAWAY."

WHO:
Students on nearly 60 high school teams, representing 11 states and the District of Columbia. To see a list of all teams competing in the event, click here.

Competition on March 5-6, 2010
9 a.m. - approximately 4 p.m.

(Note: Reporters, photographers and videographers may schedule a visit Thursday afternoon, March 4, when teams are arriving and setting up their robots.)

To inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators and prepare them for the technologically advanced workplace of the future by designing a building a robot, competing in a series of challenges aimed at testing their robots, building alliances, and exercising teamwork and gracious professionalism.
