Highly contagious and bang up to date – the Open virus is rife

Karlsruhe/Berlin, Sep 25, 2014 --  The Open virus is raging. But don’t worry – even though it’s highly contagious, it’s completely harmless. Added value from sharing – that’s one way to sum up the latest philosophy to take the information society by storm. In the Open approach, knowledge is a resource that grows as it is shared. Is that a paradox? Not when it comes to information, and certainly not in the case of geoinformation.

The Open virus has made a whole host of technological and social processes possible – from open source to open innovation, from open data to open government and from open access to free culture. The concept of sharing knowledge openly has spread into business workflows, corporate strategies, government processes, debates on innovation and the art and media scene.

Open-source software, open data and open government have become firmly established in the world of geoinformation. During INTERGEO 2014, OpenSource-Park is once again the place to learn the latest on businesses, projects and solutions in the field of open source and geoinformatics. Exhibitors including WhereGroup GmbH & Co. KG, Sourcepole AG - Linux & Open Source Solutions, ISB AG, norBIT GmbH, OpenStreetMap and OpenSeaMap are showcasing their latest products and solutions for geoinformatics.

In the community and presentations section, users and service providers will be giving talks on the latest issues regarding the use of open-source approaches in geoinformatics. A whole range of short presentations will give visitors a brief but far-reaching insight into the world of open-source software and the associated opportunities. Programme
Find out about the latest solutions and products related to free software and free geodata – in OpenSource-Park at 20.INTERGEO 2014, from 7 to 9 October in Berlin.
