"An increasing number of microcontrollers are being used in automotive vehicles, including devices to control anti-theft systems, auto-lock systems and car area network systems," said Farhad Mafie, vice president of the ASSP Business Unit at TAEC. "These convenience features consume current, even when the engine is switched off and the microcontroller is in sleep mode, placing considerable strain on the vehicle battery. With its low-power consumption and integrated sub-clock circuit, our new voltage regulator IC provides a highly reliable solution to this problem."
"The new device's power consumption of only 95 microamperes is currently the world's lowest for this product category and approximately 20 percent lower than Toshiba's previous product, TB9000F," commented Lee Estrada, director of the APIC Business Unit at TAEC. "Other manufacturers can't match our low current consumption and their regulator ICs sacrifice some functionality as well." He said that Toshiba engineers employed BiCD process technology and optimized internal circuitry to achieve this result. BiCD refers to the integration of bipolar transistors, complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) field effect transistors (FETs) and high-voltage and huge-electric current double-diffused metal oxide semiconductor (DMOS) process technology.
