OSCI Continues to Enrich SystemC AMS Standard by Proposing New Features for Efficient Mixed-Signal System-Level Design

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Oct 04, 2011 -- The Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI), an independent non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing SystemC™ as an industry-standard language for electronic system-level (ESL) design, is pleased to announce the release of a new whitepaper which proposes new features for the SystemC Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS) Standard to further enhance mixed-signal system-level design. The whitepaper can be downloaded free of charge at www.systemc.org.

The whitepaper presents new proposals for the SystemC AMS extensions to further expand the power of SystemC AMS for the creation of mixed-signal virtual prototypes. These features, which are fully complementary to the existing SystemC AMS 1.0 standard, can be used in combination with digitally-oriented ESL design methodologies for functional modeling, architecture exploration and virtual prototyping of embedded analog/mixed-signal systems.

The whitepaper will motivate the introduction of new execution semantics and language constructs to facilitate a more reactive and dynamic behavior of the Timed Data Flow (TDF) model of computation, the powerful modeling style introduced by SystemC AMS Standard to abstract continuous-time behavior using discrete-time representations. This co-called "Dynamic TDF" feature allows runtime changes of the time step and data rates during simulation, to comply with demanding requirements and use cases in e.g. automotive and control applications. By means of a motor control example the new concepts of Dynamic TDF are highlighted and explained. Further detailing of the Dynamic TDF language and semantics is an ongoing effort of the OSCI's AMS Working Group, as part of a planned update of the AMS language reference manual (LRM).

SystemC AMS users, system integrators, modeling experts, EDA suppliers and mixed-signal design and verification architects are encouraged to review and discuss the concepts proposed in this whitepaper with the AMS Working Group members via the AMS discussion forum at www.systemc.org. Members of OSCI can participate in the AMS Working Group, which will continue with the standardization of the dynamic TDF features and language reference manual updates.
