Sarnoff Markets High-Power Mid-IR Laser Diodes From Stock In 1.8 To 3.3 um Wavelengths; Ideal for Military, Medical, Monitoring Applications; 2.8 um Device Is World's First

PRINCETON, N.J.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Sept. 15, 2004— Sarnoff Corporation, a manufacturer of custom-order semiconductor lasers, is now stocking and selling a line of mid-infrared (IR) laser diodes operating at power outputs ranging from 20 mW to one watt. Designed for demanding applications, the products, including the world's first 2.8 um device, are priced at less than $3,000 for unmounted diodes, and less than $5,000 for devices packaged in standard mounts.

"This is the first time Sarnoff is shipping laser diodes from stock, instead of making them only on custom order," said David Zish, Senior Business Director. "Our mid-IR lasers have always set new standards for performance, and this service makes them available to customers who need only a few lasers."

The mid-IR wavelength has applications in such areas as infrared countermeasures (IRCM), gas monitoring, and medical imaging and diagnostics systems, as well as in research. Sarnoff's stock laser diodes all have 100 um apertures. They are also available with custom cavity lengths and aperture sizes. The stock items are:

All stocked laser diodes are available on 5- to 30-day delivery. More time may be required for lasers with custom packaging specifications.

Sarnoff continues to custom-manufacture lasers in wavelengths between 800 nm and 3.3 um.
