PolarFab Introduces a High-performance Modular 0.35 Micron BiCMOS Process Technology

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 2001--PolarFab, a Minnesota-based, pure-play semiconductor foundry, announced today, at the Fabless Semiconductor Industry Expo in Santa Clara, the availability of Polar35, a 0.35-micron process supporting modular platforms of analog, mixed-signal, CMOS and BiCMOS.

The modular Polar35 platform allows the customer to use only the layers needed for a specific application, minimizing wafer cost. Polar35 incorporates standard 5 V and 3.3 V triple tubbed CMOS with a unique RF bipolar NPN combination of 28 GHz max. fT with a 3.3 V BVceo and 15 GHz max. fT with an 8 V BVceo. The device library also includes varactors, inductors, Schottky diodes, LPNPs, poly-poly capacitors and high-sheet rho poly resistors.

PolarFab customers realize immediate process design start-ups and shorter design cycles through PDKs (process design kits) with the Polar35 process. The PDKs are available now in a Cadence Design Systems environment, with PolarFab's downloadable digital cell libraries, giving complete front-to-back support of advanced analog, RF and mixed-signal integrated circuit designs.

Polar35 will be available in the fourth quarter for customers using PolarShuttle(TM), a multi-project wafer program offered by PolarFab. This program allows multiple designs on one wafer that is fast-tracked through fabrication. It is an ideal method for designers to test prototype designs and expedite release to market.

The Polar35 process is an ideal technology for a wide range of analog and mixed-signal applications, including power management, RF, and high-voltage, high-current amplifiers and line drivers.
