Virage Logic’s President and CEO Announces Candidacy for 2009 GSA Board of Directors Seat

FREMONT, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—January 15, 2009— Virage Logic Corporation (NASDAQ:VIRL), the semiconductor industry's trusted IP partner, today announced that Dr. Alex Shubat, co-founder, president and chief executive officer, is running as a candidate to serve on the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) board of directors for a two-year term in the EDA/design partner category that includes Intellectual Property (IP) providers.

For over a decade, Virage Logic has been committed to delivering a broad portfolio of highly differentiated silicon proven IP for a variety of market segments on a wide range of advanced process nodes for leading foundries and over 350 global customers. The company has been a member of the GSA since 1999, and has served on several GSA committees over the years, including the IP subcommittee.

“I believe our current economic situation will result in a significant change in the overall structure of the semiconductor industry,” said Dr. Alex Shubat, president and CEO for Virage Logic. “As a GSA board member, I will focus on driving several key initiatives: increased interoperability and quality of tools and IP; early collaboration and integration by design and manufacturing ecosystem partners and stakeholders; and the education and promotion of the critical role the semiconductor industry plays in our local and global communities,” he said. “By focusing on these initiatives, I believe we as an industry can grow stronger during this downturn.”

Dr. Shubat co-founded Virage Logic in 1996. Prior to taking on the role of president and CEO in October 2008, Dr. Shubat served as chief operating officer (COO) where he led the company’s strategic initiative to always be first-to-market with next generation products by focusing on both organic and in-organic product line expansion and operational excellence. Prior to his role as COO, Dr. Shubat served as the company’s vice president of research and development and chief technology officer (CTO) where he was instrumental in leading the nearly 300-person technical staff to conceive, develop and deliver the highly differentiated advanced technology solutions for which Virage Logic has become known.

Before co-founding Virage Logic, Dr. Shubat served as director of engineering at Waferscale Integration, a provider of Programmable uC peripherals (subsequently sold to ST). During his 10-year career at Waferscale Integration, he managed various groups including design, application-specific integrated circuit and high-speed memory.

Holding over 20 patents, and contributing to more than 25 publications, Dr. Shubat was elected to the Santa Clara University Industry Advisory Board in 2007. He is also a member of the IEEE and served as a committee member for the IEEE’s International Solid State Circuit Conference (ISSCC) from 2004 to 2006. He received an ISSCC special topic session award in 2005 and an ISSCC panel award in 2002.

Dr. Shubat holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada, an executive M.B.A. from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.
