‘Lunacy’ Comes to Kettering University FIRST Robotics District Contest March 6-7

FLINT, Mich.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 2, 2009— Forty of Michigan’s most talented high school robotics teams will compete March 6-7 during the Kettering University FIRST Robotics District Competition in Flint, Mich.

The game this year is called “Lunacy,” because it forces teams to contend with the laws of physics, said Bob Nichols, co-chair of the Kettering district contest. “What’s different is the floor surface. It’s a low-friction surface, which will increase speed and level of difficulty,” Nichols explained. Nichols co-chairs the event with Pat Major of Goodrich.

This year’s robots will pick up nine-inch balls and score them in trailers hitched to their opponents' robots. Additional points are awarded for scoring a special Super Cell ball in the opponents' trailers during the last 20 seconds of the match.
