We in the high tech community, known for agileness and change, should take the lead on trade show culture: Run a tradeshow for a purpose -- even one year if needed -- then DISCONTINUE THE DARN THING WHEN IT GOES STALE.
Not just picking on just DAC, but the countless other quasi-worthless shows that are still ongoing and scheduled/contracted for five years from now.
We don't need press releases trying to convine us that this DAC show was a "hit" or Embedded Systems, or XXX Forum for that matter. C'mon, we all know better. Our feet do, too. And the un-used booth giveaways at the end of the show do, too. And the fact that we like to tear down the booths a whole hour before the show ends do, too. And the fact you could let out a prodigious belch and it'd echo from one end of Moscone to another during the prime exhibition hours do, too.
Let's not lie to ourselves akin to say a drinker who wakes up to down a few shots of booze and tries to justify it!
