They are re-announcing it now. Although we used this SSP processor last year to deliver a ZFS port to a customer. Be-ware that there is a SP processor as well, which doesn't have hash/checksum and crypto units. We were burnt by this initially, before figuring it out. By the time we completed the port of ZFS, we were fully using the compression (zip), hash/checksum (sha-xx), crypto, raid unit (raid-Z1, raid-Z2) for this solution. The system worked beautifully, and bonnie, iozone numbers looked great.
We had to implement a lot of CPU infrastructure stuff, since ZFS etc. were not supported on Mips directly.
